Warnings aren't about "them"
why did i stay?
I traded justice for connection: i stopped standing up for myself in order to keep it.
You started with
Hi, I've just read that a good percentage of the population camouflages themselves as people who act in good faith, playing the victim in order to extract resources. By that I mean they act benevolently to a certain audience but have no problem damaging others for their own personal gain. So if these people clearly exist, how are you able to identify them earlier than later?
You arrived at

One line of mine, not the room's. Staying was not patience. It was a covert contract: I had terms, i never said them out loud, and i waited to be paid on an agreement the other person never made. Covert contracts are BS in both directions. They hand you the grievance of a broken deal, and they hand the other person no way to keep it.
The door
Keep a short note this week. Each time the impulse to say no arrives, write down what you actually said, what you wanted to say, and what happened next. After seven days you will not have a theory about people who act in bad faith. You will have a record of how quickly you hear yourself, which is the early warning you came looking for.
And write down what you were waiting for them to see. Then ask whether you ever said it out loud. That gap is the contract, and it is the one thing in this whole business that is entirely yours to close.
And if what you are reading here is close to your own life rather than an idea about it, tell one person before this day ends. If there is no one you can tell, call or text a crisis line where you are; they pick up.
The chair is open. Bring your own question and see what it becomes.
No account, no card, one exchange. Yours to keep.
